    • This noticeably strays from AJ's usual gritty and intense BDSM stories and isn't the most heart-melting romance. It works as a middle-of-the-road guilty pleasure, light on the angst, heavy on the sex, including a gratuitous one week menage. Dave is a mediocre Dom, seemingly forced at times, but lovable on every page. The plot makes a speedy sprint over the relationship development, keeping the growth of the romance behind the curtain. Because you don't experience this, it feels like it jumps stra [...]

    • MehI have mixed emotions about this book. I was definitely NOT sucked in at any point--in fact, I was really just reading as fast as i could to get through it. The main character, Sophie is recovering from extremely poor treatment at the hands of a sadistic previous master. Though there is not a ton of detail about Sophie's time with Master Barry, the detail that is given is enough to tell me that Sophie gave up too much power to be his submissive and he took advantage of her. One example of Bar [...]

    • There is dark and then there is dark and then there is dark. I am not sure if this fits the third one, but it sure isn't the first.Sophie is a typical Annabel submissive - driven by her needs and her masochism. Unfortunately, this makes her ripe for the pickings when she meets Barry. You find out early on that there is dark secret hanging over her, and believe me, it was an extremely dark secret - I certainly didn't see that coming. We don't find out much about Barry, which was fine with me. Ther [...]

    • I wanna know, why Ms. Joseph writes such fucked up females. Seriously Sophie, what is your deal? How can you be that broken? WTF. This story was disturbing as it shows the real dangers of BDSM life style. BDSM people are no different than regular people. Some are abusive bastards too. For Sophie to undergo such terrible physical abuse, it's just horrifying. I'm not surprised that several of the others in the lifestyle won't have anything to do with her. She's the type of person that gives BDSM s [...]

    • After rereading and reading some other BDSM romances I gained gained more appreciation for the deeper themes of this book.I really liked it but I didn't get sucked into this book as much as Owning Wednesday (where the characters had a more volatile relationship) and the the abusive ex plot had a lot of potential but fell kind of flat, but I that's okay-- the emotional journey the characters undertook was more important to the story and that part was done really well. I also could have done with [...]

    • Annabel Joseph! I told you before I love your books. No matter if “milder” or “grittier”. Dave and Sophie’s story is could be of the “milder” ones. But to me it isn’t because even if there are no hardliner plays there are scenes that go very deep into emotional and psychological part of BDSM (fiction works).I met them in Fortune but it was just a short “encounter” and I didn’t realize until theBattle of the Doms that there was also their story to be read. Well actually I sh [...]

    • 3.5 StarsThe prequel to Fortune although I don't think it's completely necessary to read them in sequence. Ryan's in this one & there is a bit of added information about him but nothing earth shattering. This is a little more emotionally intense than Fortune as Sophie has had a rough go in the BDSM scene & is now suffering from PTSD from the torture her ex-Dom inflicted upon her. Likes:■ Dave. Dave is a self-professed "dork" & he's cute as hell. He talks to his dog like a person. H [...]

    • This is recommended by the Erotic Enchants group in GoodReads as the book of the month and the first Annabel Joseph book I've read. I found that I can tolerate BDSM acts as long as they are consensual and for the pleasure of both dom and sub.Dave is a freelance erotic photographer who met Sophie in a club that caters to BDSM. He was instantly fascinated by her good looks and mysterious charm, but then later on learned about her history after witnessing how most of the people there turned a cold [...]

    • I don't know what the heck I was doing reading non taboo books because this one like Ms Jospeh's Comfort Object affected me a lot. It's erotic, deeply erotic, vitally erotic and it's also a BRILLIANTLY written book. The hero- I mean seriously can we have more heroes who aren't just a means to the heroine's satisfaction. The concept of him having a personality and being human and not just this sex object Dominant guy. It felt like I was reading from a guy's point of view when I read his thoughts. [...]

    • This is one of the "darker" bdsm romances that I've read. Darker in the sense of twisted and not kinky. This story shows the darker side and dangers of the BDSM lifestyle. How the sub can be so easily manipulated and abused. The characters were very much likable, the story plot was good but I didn't really get sucked into the book that much. The romance between Sophie and Dave was super sweet and lovely to watch but the book just kinda just fell flat for me. There were lots of kinky punishment an [...]

    • **3-1/2 Stars**This was a pretty good, short and sweet read. I guess I'm just used to A. Joseph's more intense writings (and I enjoy the dark stuff more). This did have bdsm elements (the hero was a sadist, after all), but it was lite S/m in my opinion. The M/s (S/m) were sweet together, and the heroine did have a painful history that they had to deal with. I don't think I'll ever understand the sharing thing once you're in a committed, "in love" relationship, but as I've said before, I don't li [...]

    • After suffering in the hands of an abuser disguised as a Dom and after some time away, Sophie attends a munch at their local BDSM scene where she meets Dave. It was a bit darker than what I anticipated but then again that is what Annabel Joseph is known for. I mostly liked Dave in the story; A determined, compassionate and well-controlled Dom and also a bit of a Sadist. He did not give on Sophie. I greatly admire him for that. I had a bit of trouble liking Sophie but then I understand that she's [...]

    • Urgh. The usual book. Marriage. Baby. In no particular order either, but it's always the same.Other then that, I liked Sophie's past. Dark and haunting . So sweet hahaIt was in the females and males point of view

    • This book lacked chemistry for me. It had all the right the ingredients and was reading it and thinking, yes it ticks all the boxes of what I usually like. But for some reason this book just didn't come together for me at all. So sad.

    • Annabel Joseph is a good writer, but her characters seem a bit The same, and the endings of nearly all of her books are the same.

    • Great BDSM love story. Highly reommend. Especially like the hero David, very much a loving Dom. How I imagine real people who live real lives practice D/s relationships.

    • Bah L'ho trovato estremamente ripetitivo nelle scene, spesso mi ritrovavo a volerne saltare alcune.

    • Jae’s Dark Divas Review of this title: What an outstanding story! That’s really my review…if you want the short and sweet of it. From page one Deep in the Wood compels you to turn each page to find out what happens next. There are so many underlying plot points and the information is drizzled to the readers throughout the tale, keeping the suspense level very high at times. The love and understanding between our main characters was very nice to see. I enjoyed the fact that the story wasn [...]

    • Click here for the full recommendation with favorite quotesThis was one of the first Annabel Joseph books I read, and I was hooked. It was very easy to connect to the characters, to identify with and relate to them. Sophie was recovering from an abusive relationship, which, granted, not everyone can relate to. But the aftereffects – the body image issues, the pain of loss, the fear of loving again, of giving of yourself because of the risks of being hurt – are so universal that it was easy f [...]

    • I gave this book three stars because of the facts that it was very well written , was so emotionally deep and last but not least had some learning points emphasized in it.I loved the interactions between Sophie and Dave. They were both sweet and although having to face a lot of problems were still quite joyful and carefree. Their love for each other was quite palpable especially Dave. The author made a good job of describing his personality, likes and dislikes at the beginning of the book and sh [...]

    • I thought that Deep In The Woods was not as intense as other books by this author. The author still has incorporated the dark themes that she normally writes about so well.In this book Dave, who is a fetish photographer meets Sophie who is just starting back into the BDSM scene after a very abusive relationship. Sophie is a damaged soul but feels an instant connection with Dave and his dominance. Dave wants to offer Sophie a chance to heal emotionally and physically. Sophie is in counselling but [...]

    • Deep in the woods - where nobody should goThis was a heart wrenching novel from start to finish.Sophie was emotionally crushed due to a previous bad BDSM Dom/sub relationship.Even though years had passed since the previous relationship ended Sophie was still lost, struggling to under why and what really happened to her in the past. Then she meets Dave a photographer (and his Dr friend Ryan). It's Dave's love and compassion, desire to help and understand not only what happened in her past, but to [...]

    • I wanted to give this book a higher review, but then I realized I wouldn't re-read it, and any book I rate 4 or 5 stars, I want to re-read, and I didn't hereThe concept was good, the characters were interesting and had depth, I was even okay that Sophie realized she had been brainwashed and enticed previously and we could accept that. Dave's motives and reasoning was solid and he was wonderfully perfect for her. He was funny, kind, sadistic and strongI guess the reason I won't re-read is that th [...]

    • Definitely one of Joseph's more emotional reads. I fell in love with Dave from the beginning. A man's man so sure of himself and confident without coming off cocky. Loving but stern. Honest and not afraid of his emotions. The true picture of a Dom perfection. Sophia was immediately likable as well carrying such horrible baggage that you couldn't help but relate to her and want more than ever to just give her a hug! The kink may not have been as "hard-core" as some of Joseph's other works but the [...]

    • Disappointing! Before reading this book I had just finished Ms Joseph's Torment Me series and it was FANTASTIC ( really horribly dark but written so well) so imagine my surprise when I just couldn't connect with these characters. I didn't like the way the author didn't make Dave more authoritative at the club and talk Sophie down from her freak out. They got together in the first night and then moved in together not long after 2 months I think. It was far too soon and there relationship was insta [...]

    • A well-wrought thoroughly explored story. Having read a few of Joseph's novels I see a trajectory of growth and expansion that makes reading the earlier works just as pleasurable as later, more sophisticated works. Lovers of "Owning Wednesday" will see broad similarities, but the actual plots are widely divergent. Story shows an intense relationship between two people. A loving Dom and a resilient sub working through a relationship. This is probably one of my favorites aspects, the evolution of [...]

    • I enjoyed this one. The plot was interesting. The ex was horrifying - and I was vaguely disturbed by the group which did not really do anything. It didn't sit right with me. Then again I think there is a line -- each to their own it's true but when you are talking drugging someone -- then you remove the consensual part IMHO. Annabel is a phenomenal writer - one whose craft gets stronger with each book. She is a joy to read and a very fresh voice in the genre!
