    • First, why did I read this book? Our youth minister, an amazingly caring, dynamic and beloved individual, recently left the church to follow her dream of starting a boarding school for troubled youth. When she left, she gave this book to every family in the group of teens she worked with at the church. So, I figured it might be an important book.Unfortunately, I found it to be pretty much useless, while admitting that I'm not the in the expected audience. I did like the first chapter, which make [...]

    • I found some value in this book. Like most parenting books, it does repeat a lot of information most parents already know and have read before, but it does present some new information regarding the way society, apart from our individual parenting strategies, is impacting the development of our children. The first few chapters seemed a little disorganized and tended to push families to have at least one parent staying at home full time. I am privileged to be able to work part-time from home, but [...]

    • I keep reading these parenting books thinking that it will give me some completely different approach, but they are all similar (at least the newer ones, the ones from the 50s seem to emphasize much more spanking but i dont listen to those as much). Listen to your kids, empathize, dont be a dick and they like discipline (not the smacky kind, just the i give a shit and we are not equals/friends kind). fortunately neither of my daughters has come to me with a "fuck you i like giving blow jobs" ran [...]

    • Great resource for parents. Helps to realize times have changed in parenting. The author is a counselor and lecturer. He recounts stories and presents useful information regarding teenagers especially. Often times an authoritative parenting mentality will only push a child to looking for a second 'family' to find comfort. A parent must work on fully understanding their child's temperament, and then aim at working within those aspects. Doing so will encourage growth and opportunities for sharing. [...]

    • According to this author, my generation of parents has the smallest generation gap between us and our children than any previous generation. But with that, comes unique challenges and techniques. This author is empathetic, respectable, and caring in his approach to laying them out. I picked up some good insight and inspiration for unique ways to continue in my efforts to connect with my children. I enjoyed and appreciated this book immensely, although I think it was slightly repetitive and a lit [...]

    • What is important to remember? The fact that YOU HAVE TO PARENT YOUR CHILDREN AND TEACH THEM MORALS or they will have none.
