    • Rating: 3.5 starsBig ol' family drama spanning several decades, continents and generations. Loved the first half in Argentina and Ireland, got bored in the middle in England, and loved the bittersweet final few chapters back in Argentina. Ohhh Santi.

A família Solanas.

    • Beautiful love story. Not read one in a while complete indulgence. Mainly set in Argentina, described Buenos Aires as I remember would like to discover pampa. Read for pop sugar challenge, book bought on a trip. I bought in Florida many moons ago.

    • I was very interested in reading a novel based in Argentina, and this one is basically set in a large pampas area with a ranch large enough to support a number of families in their individual houses. Unfortunately I did not find the writing or the plot matching my expectations. Seemingly it is really pitched at a young adult reader with perhaps the author wishing for a contract to sign up to a daytime TV soap opera. Rather disappointing to the extent that after about the first hundred pages I si [...]

    • The three star rating has a caveat. I really liked the first 75% of this book, but the last 25% was frustrating. I tried to just enjoy the story for what it is, a fictional story. I had a hard time getting past the overriding message though, which seemed to say that in the case of true love or soulmates or whatever, infidelity is permissible. Ugh. Beautiful story-telling, frustrating segments here and there.

    • Omg, this was really an awful read. First 200 pages were about uninteresting and unconvincing Argentinian-Irish family and polo game, and the rest of the gibberish was just gibberish. Please note as well that this book has more than 550 pages. WTF?

    • Liked a review of a book by this author written by a friend so decided to mooch something. So far am enjoying this book. Well, rather sad really interesting how the main character is really not so very nice at all - something that usually puts me off a book (don't like spending a lot of time with people I don't like), but here this didn't disturb me too much. I enjoyed reading about Buenos Aires and the pampa and a bit of history not so foreign to me Perhaps the lesson is that it is a shame wha [...]

    • Sofia Solanas; definitely a character I won't be forgetting in a long time. I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know her. I lived the depth of her character and the twists and turns in the stories. Of course, being from Ireland there are parts of the story which I knew were a little unbelievable; Irish people at that time would have been very poor and anna's "poor girl from Ireland" on holidays in London just didn't make sense to me. you would have to have been extremely wealthy to be able to afford [...]

    • I absolutely love this one. One of my favourite books ever. Beautiful story about love, family and sacrifice. I cried a lot while reading it, but that's just another reason why I love it so much - I really enjoy books that make me cry.

    • This is my favorite book of all times. I cried so hard, loved the characters and even wish i could just take Sophia in my arms to comfort her. I read it 3 times and will pick it up again I am sure of it.

    • myself & my sister read this book many yrs ago & more than once, i didn't expect a book to make me cry but it did so for me a great romantic read

    • A beautiful love story that spans several decades and countries, this book was a compelling read.It was a little slow to begin with, but try not to be put off by the pace of the first chapter because after this the characters start to became familiar and the story truly takes off. I loved the rich descriptions of Argentina and life on the pampas, but it was the characters I took to my heart. They were so wonderfully written, none of them perfect but oh so realistic, just all trying to make the b [...]

    • Couldn't finish this book. My mom is a big fan of Santa Montefoire and for some reason the title captured my interest. Unfortunately, you kind of find out the significance of the Ombu Tree within the first few chapters, which to me kind of makes reading the entire book pointless. Definitely not going to sit through five hundred something chapters to see how it ends. Disappointed. Also all the date-changing didn't give me motivation to finish either. You're just getting to know one character and [...]

Heel mooi [...]

    • Raamatu alapealkiri on "Eepiline romaan keelatud armastusest". :)

    • I got bored with this book as it was far too long; it was an arduous journey to try reading to the end. The story surrounding Sofia and Santi was interesting in itself but it tended to get lost among the stories involving the other 20 characters. It was like wading through treacle at times. There is no doubt that it is an 'epic' but it certainly wasn't 'sweeping'.
